A Brief Biography of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
He travelled to Yemen and Sham with his uncles when he was about ten and twelve years old, respectively. On reaching Busra, a monk called Buhayra recognised the prophet by his attributes and explained that, “as he [the prophet] was coming through the valley, I saw that there was no tree or stone except that it fell into prostration before him.” The second journey to Sham was undertaken as a business trip on behalf of Khadija (may Allah be pleased with her), in the company of her slave, Maysarah. When the Prophet (peace be upon him) was twenty-five years old, he married Khadijah (R.A).
When he reached forty years of age, he was blessed with prophethood as the angel Gabriel came to him with the first revelation whilst he was in the cave of Hira. The Prophet remained in Makkah preaching good and enduring all types of hardships. After enduring thirteen years of relentless torture at the hands of the Makkans, the Prophet and his companions (R.A) were ordered to migrate to Medina by the will of The Lord.
Not even ten years had passed by since migrating when the prophet set out for Tabuk with thirty thousand devoted companions in order to bring justice to the oppressed, a voice for the weak and hope for the destitute. The migration was a journey of oppression, whilst that of Tabuk was heroic, and the last journey to Makkah at the time of the Farewell Pilgrimage was full of love. Thousands of people as far as the eye could see were awaiting a glimpse at the Prophet`s beauty. The stay of the prophet in Madina was for a period of ten years and included expeditions, journeys for umrah and hajj, dispatching letters inviting different tribe and certain kings and leaders to Islam, and his marriages (three of which were in Makkah).
He passed away at the age of sixty-three on Monday 12th Rabi al-Awwal, and his burial took place on the night of Wednesday. He was buried in blessed Madina, the same place he passed away, where his bedding lay in very room he shared with mother Aisha (R.A). Subsequently, the caliphs Abu Bakr, Umar and ‘Uthman (may the Lord be pleased with them all) were also buried in the same room.
