QUESTION:

A person recites Surah Kahf after Maghrib on Thursday night. Is this permissible and what exact time did the prophet recite Surah Kahf on Fridays?

ANSWER:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In principle, reciting Surah Kahf after sunset on Thursday is equivalent to reciting it on Friday and grants the same benefits. This is because Thursday night is considered the night of Friday as, in Islamic calendar, the night precedes the day. In fact, it is considered mustahab (recommended) to recite Surah Kahf on Thursday night, as it signifies eagerness towards virtuous deeds.

In addition, although there seems to be no specific mention in Hadith about the time when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited Surah Kahf, one can still recite it at any time on Friday, before sunset, to attain the benefits mentioned in Hadith.

May Almighty Allah reward you abundantly for your enthusiasm in trying to learn more about the life of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Āmeen.

And Allah Ta’ālā Knows Best
