What is the best Du’a for marriage?

QUESTION:

Assalamoalaikum. Going through a very tough patch in life. Had been facing issues regarding marriage and relationships. Really want to get settled and find my spouse. Someone in my frnds was interested in me. But now he has backed off too. It feels like I will never find a partner. Can you suggest me any duas for seeking help and guidance from Allah

ANSWER:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Indeed, life can be tough at times; but it is Allah Almighty who puts us through trials in order to make apparent which of his servants are dearest to him. But, during such tests, it is imperative that we stay conscious and avoid unlawful avenues. Rather, at such times, we should be patient upon sufferings, steadfast upon righteous actions and hopeful in Allah Almighty, for He is the Remover of Griefs.

Additionally, we should read the stories of the Prophets and Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him), like the ‘Stories of the Companions‘ from Fadha‘il-e-A‘maal of Sheikh Zakariyya Kandhalwi RA – this will provide us with further courage and hope in the face of adversity. Amongst the stories of patience is the story of Musa (peace be upon him) – when reaching a place called Madyan, he had no house, no job and no wife or family. But whilst entertaining hope in Allah, he recited the following verse:

رب اني لما أنزلت إلي من خير فقير

Transliteration: “Rab-bi in-nee li-maa an-zal-ta i-lay-ya min khay-rin fa-qeer.”

Translation: “My Lord, I am truly in great need of any good that You might send down to me.” [1]

He had no material possessions or family, but by the virtue of this prayer and reliance upon Almighty Allah, Allah provided him with a family, a job and an accommodation.

Furthermore, there are other verses of the Holy Qur’ān which one can also recite:

ربنا آتنا في الدنيا حسنة وفي الآخرة حسنة وقنا عذاب النار

Transliteration: “Rab-ba-naa aa-ti-naa fid dun-yaa ha-sa-nah wa fil aa-khi-rah ha-sa-nah wa qi-naa a-zaa-ban naar.”

Translation: “Our Lord! Give us good in this world and good in the hereafter, and defend us from the torment of the fire.” [2]

ربنا هب لنا من ازواجنا وذرياتنا قرة اعين واجعلنا للمتقين اماما

Transliteration: “Rab-ba-naa hab la-naa min az-waa-ji-naa wa zur-riy-yaa-ti-naa qur-ra-ta a‘yun waj-al-naa lil-mut-ta-qee-na i-maa-maa.”

Translation: “Our Lord! Grant that our spouses and our offspring be a joy to our eyes, and give us the grace to lead the righteous.” [3]

Finally, along with making du’ā (supplication) throughout the day, we should try our utmost to make these prayers at the sacred time of tahajjud (last portion of the night), when the special and divine mercy and blessings of Allah descend  and Allah calls out to His servants in order to respond to their needs and permissible wishes.

May the Almighty Allah ease your affairs and grant you happiness in this world and the hereafter. Ameen.

And Allah Ta’ālā Knows Best
