Is my education unlawful if I lied?

QUESTION:

during some time I was selling drugs i was caught by the police and given caution. Alhamdulillah my life has changed since those times and i started focusing in education and Islam. My university which i applied for questioned me asking whether the drugs i was caught with were for using or selling and i said they were my own when they were actually for selling out of fear of not gaining entry in to the uni. They have accepted me and said we’ll see you in 3 weeks etc. Im asking is this lie which i have told haram and now is my whole education degree haram and the income if i earn off it because of this lie?

ANSWER:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Although the lie itself is harām (forgiveness will have to be sought out) [1]; the subsequent education and income thereof will not be deemed harām [2].

And Allah Ta’ālā Knows Best
