QUESTION:

Dear Mufti Sahib, is it permissible for parents to seek forgiveness and perform acts of goodness for their son who committed suicide?

ANSWER:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In essence, it is permissible to seek forgiveness for any deceased Muslim, irrespective of the sins they may have committed. Moreover, there is high hope that, though the act of committing suicide remains harām, the voluntary acts of goodness performed on behalf of the individual will reach them.

May the Almighty bestow endurance and resilience upon those facing hardship, and may He grant forgiveness to all Muslims, whether they are alive or have passed away. Āmeen
