White Vaginal Discharge

Shortened Question:

Does white vaginal discharge invalidate the ablution or not?

Question:

Respected Mufti Saheb, As-Salaamu Alaikum,

  • In one of the Fataawaas on your website. I had read that the white vaginal discharge is normal for women and neither does it break the wudhu nor the clothes need to be washed but in some of your other Fataawaas like Fatwa#15878 it is mentioned that it breaks the wudhu. Also in a book named “Tohfa-e-Khwaateen” by Maulana Aashiq Ilahi Bulandshehri, it is mentioned that leukorrhea breaks the wudhu. Now, leukorrhea is also white vaginal discharge. I am confused, please clarify this matter. Which discharge is normal and which is abnormal? Which breaks the wudhu and which does not?
  • I experience white vaginal discharge in days other than my monthly period. At the end of my period, I experience discharge which is slightly yellowish. Should I take the tahaarah bath at that point or should I wait for the discharge to be completely white as in my normal days?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

  1. Please refer to the following link:

  1. In principle, the menses will be terminated when the discharge is completely white. If the discharge is yellowish, then you will be considered to be in menses[1] up till ten days from the beginning of discharge.[2] Hence, you should wait for the discharge to be completely white and then only take a bath.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
