Paralysis & Salaah

Shortened Question:

Can a person with paralysis pray his Salaah in the state of impurity?

Question:

Salaam. Whether an old man can read his 5 times Namaaz on bed itself while he is in Naapaaki. The problem here is he got paralysis with which he can`t stand on his own. Moreover, he does toilet and bathroom also on the bed as pampers will be attached to him. In this situation can he read Naamaaz and do Zikr. It is not possible to clean him every hour so once or twice in week or 2 weeks he gets cleaned with having bath (ghusl) also. So please clarify me in detail.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is permissible for a paralysed individual, who cannot perform ablution or Tayammum[1] by himself or through assistance, to perform the Salaah in the state of impurity[2] and on an unclean bed[3]. The paralysed individual may also, in the state of not being able to stand, sit or move, observe the Salaah lying on the bed[4] and in whichever direction his or her bed is facing[5].
