Imitation Rings for Women


Shortened Question:

Is it permissible for women to wear imitation rings?


Mufti Saheb, please advice with the following question. Is it permissible for women to wear imitation rings? JazakAllah


In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In principle, women are only permitted to wear rings made of silver or gold[1] and of no other type of metal[2]. Imitation rings are not made from real gold or silver but made in lead and zinc only[3]. Thus, it is not permissible for men or women to wear imitation rings[4]. However, it will be permissible to wear a ring which is not made of silver but it is simply plated with silver[5].
