Blessed features of Prophet Muhammad (May Peace and Blessings be upon Him)

His name was Muhammad (peace be upon him) – the messenger of The Lord. His father was `Abdullah. His mother was Amina b. Wahb. His paternal grandfather was `Abdul Muttalib and paternal grandmother was called Fatima. He had three sons: Qasim, Abdullah (also called Tayyib and Tahir) and Ibrahim. He had four daughters: Zaynab, Fatima, Ruqayya and Umm Kulthum. He had eleven wives with whom his marriage was consummated: Khadija, Sawda, Aisha, Hafsa, Umm Habiba, Umm Salama, Zaynab bt. Jahsh, Zaynab bt. Khuzayma, Juwayriya, Safiyya and Maymuna. May Allah be pleased with them all and may He increase our love for them. Amen.

The Prophet`s auspicious birth took place in the blessed land of Makka on Monday 2nd, 8th, 9th or 12th of Rabi al-Awwal in the Year of the Elephant. He passed away at the age of sixty-three on Monday 12th Rabi al-Awwal, and his burial took place on the night of Wednesday. He was buried in blessed Madina, the same place he passed away, where his bedding lay in very room he shared with mother Aisha (R.A).

His blessed features

Prophet Muhammad (peace and salutations be upon him) was the most handsome in appearance and each of his features signified his perfectness, radiance and strength. No eye has ever seen anyone or anything more beautiful than he; no woman has ever given birth to anyone more handsome than he. He had been created free from all blemishes. It is as though he had been created as he had himself wished. He was a human being but not like other human beings; rather he was a flawless ruby and the rest of mankind is just stones. So blessed is Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that each of his limbs, including his blessed face, eyes, shoulders, tongue, hands, neck, chest, back and heart, have all been mentioned in the Glorious Qur`an.

He stature was slightly above average in height; neither extremely tall nor short. He was medium build. His chest and the area between the shoulders was wide. He had the “seal of prophecy”, which was similar in size to a pigeon`s egg, between his shoulders on the left side having spots on it like moles. The joints of his bones were large and he appeared fairly heavy, but his limbs were radiant, proportionate and perfectly joined together. His stomach and chest were level.

He had a broad countenance. His face shone like the full moon. His cheeks were smooth and he had a moderately wide mouth. The edges of his blessed teeth were slender and sharp, and he had a fine gap between the front two teeth. The words emanating from his mouth were as if it were a rosary of beads. His blessed head was moderately large, fairly round and well formed. He had a very fair complexion with a tinge of redness.

The blessed pupils of Prophet Muhammad were attractive, large and deep black and his eye lashes were long and curled. The hair of his eyebrows was thin. His eyebrows were wide but not joint at the middle. There was a vein between his eyebrows which protruded at times of displeasure. His nose was beautifully raised with narrow nostrils.

His blessed hair were long and neither totally curly nor very straight. They remained straight, neat and seemed combed at all times. His beard was dense. He had no hair on his back, stomach and chest but a thin vertical line of hair from beneath the throat till his navel and few hairs on the upper-side of his forearms and shoulders.

He had a conspicuous neck which seemed like a silver jar. He had long forearms, wide palms and thick fingers and toes. There was no silky garment softer than his palm. Both his palms and heels were fully-fleshed and his hands and feet were moderately lengthy. His sweat would flow like pearls, emitting a fragrance more pleasant than musk and ambergris.

The stranger would be awe-inspired by him from the distance; but enamoured of him no sooner he became intimate with him. When he turned towards something, he would fully turn his luminous face towards it. His gaze always remained lowered. The prophet did not stare, but generally glanced for a single moment only.

May The Lord increase us in the love of His beloved Prophet, give us the ability to emulate his ways and may He bless us with the intercession of His beautiful and handsome Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Amen.
